Alberta Jail Overview

Dinwiddie County's official jail page says the county partners with Brunswick County and Mecklenburg County through Meherrin River Regional Jail. That regional structure is the main reason a Dinwiddie County jail roster search leads to the MRRJ current-offender system instead of a separate Dinwiddie County Jail. The Alberta Main Facility is operated by the Meherrin River Regional Jail Authority and serves as the primary adult jail for local arrests, court commitments, and regional jail custody from the three member counties.

The MRRJ About page describes the Alberta site as the main facility in a two-facility jail system. It reports male and female offender housing, intake and booking functions, food service, laundry, medical services, visitation areas, dormitories, cells, recreation areas, security areas, and a firearms range behind the jail for security staff qualification. The page also says the authority opened on July 1, 2012, after a joint effort by Brunswick, Dinwiddie, and Mecklenburg, and that the project achieved LEED certification. The MRRJ public pages use the word "offender" often, including "Current Offenders" for the roster. In plain terms, that roster is the jail inmate lookup for people held in regional jail custody. Alberta Inmate Capacity

Capacity for Meherrin River Regional Jail - Alberta Main Facility needs careful wording. Dinwiddie County's page says the regional jail can house up to 677 inmates. MRRJ's own About page says the Alberta main facility has housing capacity for 697 offenders. The Virginia Board of Local and Regional Jails 2023 Jail Capacity Report lists a separate Alberta row with 628 permanent beds, 35 temporary beds, 34 special-purpose beds, rated capacity of 400, and annualized average daily population of 241.05 for July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.

Those figures can coexist because they measure different things. A jail authority may describe housing capacity, a county page may use a public summary number, and the state report may use rated capacity and bed categories for regulatory reporting. The most defensible reading is to state each number with its source instead of choosing one as the only capacity. MRRJ's FY2024 annual financial report also reported inmate population for the past year at 253, and the FY2025 budget used 280 as the budgeted population basis.

Alberta Inmate Lookup

The correct current-custody lookup for Meherrin River Regional Jail - Alberta Main Facility is the official MRRJ Current Offenders JailTracker roster. Use it for adult local or regional jail custody tied to Dinwiddie County, Brunswick County, and Mecklenburg County. The research capture saw the JailTracker shell but could not confirm the rendered fields because the app is client-side and showed a reload error in text capture, so field names should be checked in a modern browser.

When the MRRJ roster does not load or returns no match, call the jail before assuming the person is not in custody. New bookings may not post right away, names may vary, and some people move from local jail custody to VADOC, federal custody, ICE custody, or another local facility. Alberta Address Contact

The Alberta Main Facility is the public contact point for most Dinwiddie County jail custody questions. Use the facility phone for current custody, booking status, visitation issues, phone accounts, mail routing, and account questions. For records that are not posted online, MRRJ's FOIA page names a records contact and explains that Virginia FOIA requests should identify existing records with reasonable specificity.

Alberta Inmate Visits

Family and friend visits for MRRJ offenders are handled through GettingOut tablet visitation, not through a courthouse counter. The MRRJ visitation page says all visitors must register an account and that visits occur on tablets added to each housing unit, including special management units. Visitor and offender conduct is monitored. Disruptive behavior, duplicate visitor accounts, pictures of visits, third-party calls, driving during a visit, inappropriate clothing, and visits for offenders in disciplinary custody can lead to suspension or termination.

Alberta Mail Money Phone

MRRJ's mail rules are unusually specific. Personal mail is not sent to the Alberta street address. The MRRJ mail page routes family correspondence to a Phoenix, Maryland processing address and requires the inmate's name and jacket number. Legal mail, books, and subscriptions use the Alberta post office box. Money orders are not accepted by mail and will be returned unless the item qualifies as legal mail or approved publication material.

For calls, the MRRJ telephone page says newly booked offenders receive two free five-minute calls. Housing-area phones are available daily from 9:00 am to 10:15 pm unless lockdown, emergency, or another restriction applies. Calls are prepaid debit or collect, may be monitored or recorded, and are limited to 15 minutes. ViaPath handles offender telephone services, and ConnectNetwork handles prepaid phone accounts.

The MRRJ accounts page warns that lobby hours may change without notice for security reasons. Do not use account-deposit channels for bond unless the jail or court confirms bond payment rules for that case.

Alberta Booking Intake

Dinwiddie County arrests that require adult jail custody usually go to MRRJ rather than to the sheriff's administrative office or the courthouse. Intake and booking at the Alberta facility include identifying the person, receiving commitment paperwork, setting up jail records, handling property and account information, and routing the person through medical, mental-health, classification, and housing steps. A person may remain in MRRJ after sentencing as DOC-responsible while awaiting transfer to the Virginia Department of Corrections. MRRJ budget materials state that DOC-responsible offenders not transferred within 60 days after sentencing are considered out of compliance.

About Alberta Facility

MRRJ is a regional jail authority, not a Dinwiddie-only lockup. The Alberta Main Facility holds adult male and female offenders from the member jurisdictions, including pretrial detainees, sentenced local offenders, DOC-responsible offenders awaiting transfer, and court-authorized statuses such as work release, home incarceration, weekend service, or trustee work when those options apply.
